Abstract

Tales from the front lines of supporting new users of federated services! We've all been there: you're excited about a new technology and you want to tell your friends. You've already gotten into the weeds and you come on a bit too strong. Does your friend need to know what "XMPP” stands for? Does it matter if they know what a domain is? This talk will be a review of common stumbling blocks for new users, tips on keeping things simple with your friends and family, and a discussion about how to help people grow into their newfound communities. We’ll also take a closer look at demystifying common terms in the world of XMPP so you’re ready to answer some of the tougher questions in life, like, “What is a Snikket?” Come learn more about open federated systems and how you can help others join in on the fun!
